✨ Inclusion and sustainable development in Guinea: a major challenge

inclusion developpement durable guinee

Guinea has considerable natural resources—mining, agriculture, renewable energy—but the real challenge is to transform this potential into development that is both sustainable and inclusive. Too often, the economic benefits accrue to a minority, while local communities remain marginalized.

Social inclusion is a pillar of sustainable development. The recent law adopted in August 2025 in favor of people with disabilities, which provides for quotas in the civil service and accessibility measures, is a significant step forward. But beyond the texts, it is necessary to ensure real implementation and to involve people more in the decisions that affect them

On the economic front, the World Bank points out that Guinea's growth, driven by the mining sector, has not yet reduced poverty. To reverse this trend, it is crucial to strengthen social investments and support local initiatives. Access to microcredit, via Crédit Rural de Guinée or digital microfinance solutions, plays a key role in including women, young people, and farmers in the economy.

Women, in particular, play a central role in agriculture and natural resource management. Their empowerment and equitable access to land and financing are essential for a successful transition to sustainable development.

Guinea has already made commitments, notably by joining the UN's Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions. But success will depend on the ability of the authorities and civil society to turn these promises into concrete actions.

🌱 Sustainable development that is not inclusive remains incomplete. Guinea now has the opportunity to build a future where growth goes hand in hand with social justice and equity.
